Chinese Delegation Looks into Investment Opportunities in Bulgarian Sea Ports

Varna, February 21(BTA) - A delegation led by Ning Jizhe, Deputy Director of China's National Development and Reform Commission, visited the ports of Varna and Bourgas on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Deputy Transport Minister Anton Ginev said the visitors would be familiarized with the opportunities for investing in Bulgaria's two largest sea ports, Varna and Bourgas, for rehabilitation of the railway between Varna and Rousse (on the Danube) and for completion of the Karnobat-Sindel railway.

The delegation was also taken round the ferry complex of Varna on Saturday.

Ginev said: "We are not analysing a possible award of a concession to operate the port of Varna." This will be done if a serious investment proposal is made, including plans to develop the port.

Next month we expect to sign an agreement with China for a fast railway  China-Bourgas-Europe link, Bourgas Mayor Dimitur Nikolov said on Sunday. It will accelerate container cargo deliveries from China to Europe and ensure much better logistics, he added. Nikolov also said he believes that Bourgas will play a key role in this and called on foreign investors to join the scheme.

Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski  joined the chinese guests later.

In March a Bulgarian delegation led by Moskovski will visit Tehran where possible ways to develop
transport across the Black Sea will be presented.
