Bulgaria Scraps VAT on Food Donations
Sofia, October 27 (BTA) - The MPs adopted conclusively on Thursday legislative amendments to scrap the payment of VAT on food donations as of January 1, 2017.
The combined value of food products donated to food bank operators in the current calendar year should not exceed 0.5 per cent of the combined value of the taxable food deliveries made by the doner in the preceding calendar year. The donated food should still be fit for consumption.
The Agriculture Minister will approve the food donation timeframes which should be proposed by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) and coordinated with the Finance Ministry. The relevant information should be published on the websites of the BFSA and the Agriculture Ministry.
The MPs also amended the Foods Act to regulate the permitting and operation of food banks.
