site.btaSofia Institute to Take Part in European Archaeology Days

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences National Archaeological Institute with Museum (NAIM) will take part in the European Archaeology Days 2024, which will be held in a number of European countries between June 14 and 16. The festival is aimed to draw the attention and the interest of the general public to the research aspects of the complex and multifaceted science of archaeology, NAIM said on Monday.

A variety of events are planned for families, schools, university students, historians, museum visitors and everyone else who is curious about the world archaeological heritage, NAIM said.

In the context of preserving cultural identities and their diversity, the European Archaeology Days call for recognizing the science of archaeology as a basis for communication, sharing European heritage and making it more accessible. NAIM's participation shows the institute's ambition to turn the Museum of Archaeology in Sofia into a place for entertainment, socialization, communication and education transcending national borders, bringing prehistoric, Thracian, late ancient, medieval and Ottoman culture of the Southeastern Balkans to the broad international public in new, interactive and unconventional ways.

During the festival, NAIM will provide free access to its digital resources. It will offer a virtual tour of the Museum of Archaeology and a series of digital exhibitions. The institute has developed the 3D tour together with the Revival Design company. Other virtual tours will take viewers free of charge around some of the most interesting temporary exhibitions held at the Museum of Archaeology over the last few years: "A Flow in Time", "130 Years of the National Museum of Archaeology", "Trebenista: 105 Years since the Discovery of the Necropolis", and "Bulgarian Archaeology 2023". They will also have a chance to see the Necropolis of Baley.

Visitors to the Museum of Archaeology will be treated to an exhibition dubbed "The Lords of Salt: Provadia-Solnitsata (5600 BC - 4350 BC)". Training adults to teach children about archaeology is on the programme as well.
