Bulgarian fencer Yoana Ilieva kicked off her Olympic debut with a victory in the women's sabre fencing tournament in Paris on Monday. The Bulgarian secured a 15-10 victory in the first round against Japan's Risa Takashima with 15:10.
Her next opponent will be the Hungarian Luca Virag Szucs in the eighth round.
Ilieva is currently number 9 in the world rankings and in recent years she has been an integral part of the world fencing elite.
