Lev notes and coins will be exchanged for euro notes and coins in 2,230 offices of Bulgarian Posts, which are listed at https://www.bgpost.bg/euro_project.

Under the National Plan for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria and the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria Act, Bulgarian Posts will exchange lev notes and coins into euro notes and coins in population centres where there are no offices or branches of credit institutions. In the first six months, this service will be free of charge for the public.

In post offices, lev notes and coins will be exchanged into euro in amounts of up to BGN 1,000 per person per day. For daily amounts between BGN 1,000 and BGN 10,000, a request must be made 3 to 5 working days in advance, and the exchange can only be carried out at 954 designated post office branches across the country.

Bulgaria is seeking to adopt the euro from January 2026 if it gets a favourable convergence report from the European Commission and the European Central Bank on June 4, 2025.
