The Sofia Science Festival will be held for the 15th time at Sofia Tech Park on May 8-11. Researchers, technologists and innovators from Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, China, the UK, the US and France will take part, the organizers from the Beautiful Science Foundation said on Wednesday.

The festival will open on May 8 in front of the John Atanasoff Forum building.

"For the first time in this country, two shows featuring world-renowned BBC hosts and Bulgarian panelists will be recorded in front of a live audience," the Foundation also said.

The event will mark several important occasions: the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation, the 120th anniversary of the discovery of Lactobacillus bulgaricus by Bulgarian scientist Stamen Grigorov, as well as other significant anniversaries related to scientific and technological breakthroughs.

The programme includes lectures and discussions with leading scientists, demonstrations and workshops, science shows, screenings of popular science documentaries, lab visits, exhibitions, and interactive experiment booths.

The closing event of the festival on May 11 will be the National Final of FameLab Bulgaria 2025. The competition features 11 Bulgarian and one Romanian scientist, selected through five preliminary rounds held in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and Antarctica, at the Bulgarian base on Livingston Island. The winner, to be announced on May 11, will represent Bulgaria at the International FameLab Final at CERN in November.

"The Sofia Science Festival is the largest event in Bulgaria for engaging with science and technology, welcoming people of all ages and professions," the organizers said.

The festival is organized by the Beautiful Science Foundation under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Science. It is part of the Cultural Events Calendar of Sofia Municipality, and is hosted by Sofia Tech Park.
