Bulgaria’s National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova holds that, with the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, the world and the Catholic Church lost a great advocate of the belief in good, the belief in man and his rights. “Many of the messages of Pope Francis went beyond the conventional concept of man as espoused by the Catholic Church,” Kiselova said on Wednesday after signing the book of condolences for the late pontiff placed at the Apostolic Nunciature in Sofia.
She went on to comment: “Pope Francis can be described as a reformist with respect to some rules in the Catholic Church. He will be missed by contemporary humanity, which is torn by so many conflicts.”
The book of condolences was placed earlier on Wednesday in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria, Archbishop Luciano Suriani.
Pope Francis’ funeral is set for Saturday, April 26, at 10 AM Central European Daylight Time, the Vatican said. The service will be led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re.
The Pope’s death on Monday morning immediately triggered a wave of reactions worldwide.
