site.btaBulgaria Posts Highest Annual Growth in Construction Output in EU in February

In February, month-on-month, construction companies in the European Union increased their output by 0.3 per cent, while those in eurozone countries rose by 0.2%, said Eurostat on Wednesday.

However, the output of the EU construction sector fell by 0.4% in the EU and by 0.5% in the euro area in February compared to January. This is the first monthly decline in construction output across the EU since September last year.

In January, the construction sector expanded by 0.2% in the EU and by 0.6% on a monthly basis.

Among the EU countries, the construction sector in Bulgaria in February had the highest year-on-year production growth – at 7.4%.

Bulgarian construction firms increased their output at a monthly rate of 0.2% in February after a 2.2 % in January.

The January output figures for the Bulgarian construction sector were revised upwards to 2.2% on a monthly basis and 8.1% on an annual basis, from the 1.5% and 7.6% initially reported.

Among the EU countries with the sharpest decline in construction sector output were Slovenia (4%), Germany (3.2%) and Poland (2.3%). By comparison, Portugal (2.9%), France (1.5%) and Sweden (1.3%) had the most significant monthly increases.
