site.btaGovernment Proposes to Set Poverty Line at BGN 638 in 2025

The government has proposed to set the poverty line at BGN 638 from January 2025. This is set out in a draft decree of the Council of Ministers, published for public consultation. 

The deadline for discussion is until August 12. 

The poverty line for 2024 is BGN 526.

The proposed figure of BGN 638 corresponds to the poverty line from an EU-SILC survey, increasing the national poverty line by 21.3% (BGN 112) compared to 2024and extending the scope of social benefits.

With the setting of the poverty line for the country at BGN 638 for 2025, the financial support for people with permanent disabilities, the monthly social benefits and allowances under the Child Protection Act will be updated according to the possibilities of the state budget. The scope of people entitled to a social old-age pension under the Social Security Code will also be extended.

In 2025, GDP growth is projected to be 3%, with a slowdown in investment growth, in particular public investment, while private investment is expected to accelerate due to a reduction in uncertainty and an increase in demand.
