Bulgarian Finance Minister Assen Vassilev conferred with US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Vassilev's Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday. The two discussed important topics on the economic agenda of Europe and the US and the opportunities for bilateral cooperation and support. Acting Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes Anna Morris and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia Brian McCauley.
Vassilev also had a meeting with Amos J. Hochstein, Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Adviser for Energy and Investment. They discussed the opportunities for decreasing the dependence on Russia natural gas and oil in the Balkan region and the need to find a strategic buyer for the Neftochim Lukoil refinery of Burgas (on the Black Sea). The North-South energy connectivity between Greece, Bulgaria and Romania was also on the agenda.
