Bulgarians made 574,000 trips abroad in November 2023, which is an increase by 14.5% from the same month of 2022, the National Statistical Institute reported Thursday. An increase was registered in the number of trips for all purposes observed (holiday and recreation, business, and other purposes). 

Bulgarians travelled the most to Turkiye (185,200 trips), Greece (96,000), Romania (52,700), Serbia (51,200), Germany (26,800), the Republic of North Macedonia (23,100), Italy (20,900), Austria (19,800), the UK (17,200), and Spain (12,300 trips). The majority of the trips were for other purposes (guest, education, cultural and sports events), 50.7%, followed by trips for holiday and recreation purposes, 24.2%.

In November 2023, foreigners made a total of 694,400 trips to Bulgaria, up by 3.4% year on year. An increase was observed in the number of trips for all purposes under review. Transit trips numbered 262,600 or 37.8% of foreigners' visits to this country.

The share of EU citizens who visited Bulgaria last month is 47% of all foreigners. The highest number of trips were made by nationals of Romania (42.4%) and Greece (26.6%).

The share of citizens from other European countries who visited Bulgaria amounted to 44.8%. The highest number of trips were made by nationals of Turkiye, 51.4%.

The highest number of visits to Bulgaria were made by nationals of Turkiye (160,000), followed by Romania (138,300), Greece (86,700), Ukraine (54,300), Serbia (47,000), the Republic of North Macedonia (30,000), Germany (25,400), Italy (14,100), the UK (12,400), and Poland (9,900).

The majority of the trips were for other purposes (guest, education, cultural and sports events), 52.4%, followed by trips for holiday and recreation purposes, 30%, and business trips (17.6%).
