Wholesale prices of staple foods in Bulgaria have increased this week from 2.242 points to 2.252 points (0.45%), show data of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. 

At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005. 

In the outgoing week, the average wholesale price of greenhouse-grown cucumbers dropped by 3% to BGN 3.54 per kilogramme. The price of tomatoes fell by 2.6% to BGN 3.00/kg. Potatoes rose by 4.8% to BGN 1.30/kg. Carrots went up by 5.7% to BGN 1.12/kg. The average wholesale price of imported onion remained unchanged at BGN 1.35/kg. Red peppers depreciated by 2.1% to BGN 2.33/kg. 

The average wholesale price of imported apples went up by 0.6% to BGN 1.80/kg. Lemons appreciated by 0.9% to BGN 2.19/kg. Bananas went up by 0.7% to BGN 2.83/kg. Oranges went down by 4% to BGN 2.17/kg. 

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk was BGN 11.38/kg. Yellow kashkaval cheese, type "Vitosha", dropped by 1.9% to BGN 16.96/kg. Yogurt, with fat content of 3% and over, was selling at BGN 1.15 for a cup of 400 g. The price of fresh milk, with 3% fat content, increased by 0.4% to BGN 2.28/litre.

Chicken went up by 1.8% to BGN 6.61/kg. Eggs (size M) were selling at BGN 0.39 per piece.

The average wholesale price of rice fell by 0.6% to BGN 3.19/kg. Lentils went down by 0.5% to BGN 4.18/kg. Dry common beans dropped by 0.2% to BGN 4.05/kg. 

Sugar went down by 1.7% and traded at BGN 2.28/kg. Sunflower oil depreciated by 2.5% to BGN 2.75/litre. Flour, type 500, went up by 2.4% to BGN 1.29/kg. Butter from cow's milk dropped by 1.8% to BGN 2.72 for a pack of 125 g.
