Bulgarian air passengers increased by 74% in 2022, according to new Eurostat figures. That was the second lowest increase, after Cyprus' 69%.

The EU average increase was 119%, from EUR 375 million in 2021 to EUR 820 million in 2022.

The most significant increase is seen in Ireland (256%).

Extra-EU passenger transport represented 47% of total air passenger transport in 2022. Intra-EU transport represented 37% and national transport represented 16%. Compared with 2021, the share of extra-EU transport increased by 8 percentage points (pp), while intra-EU transport decreased by 1 percentage points and national transport decreased by 7 percentage points.
