Hisashi Michigami, Japan's new ambassador to Bulgaria, believes that the time has come to restore the golden age of bilateral relations, which, according to him, spanned the period from the 1970s to the early 1990s. "I find it perfectly feasible," the diplomat said on Tuesday, opening a meeting on "The Future of High-technology Companies between Bulgaria and Japan".
The meeting was organized by Nihon Tomono Kai - Club of Friends of Japan in Bulgaria, as part of the 34th edition of the Days of Japanese Culture in Bulgaria. That was Ambassador Michigami's first public event in this country.
He said several Japanese companies operate in Bulgaria, which is not enough. "The potential is much larger, and I have a lot of work to do. But it is not all up to us."
The ambassador noted that, in addition to business, trade and economic contacts, Tokyo sets great store by cultural, academic and inter-regional exchange, including the exchange of university students.
"My mission here is to strengthen and expand our bilateral relations," he stated.
