Labour inspectors from Bulgaria and Lithuania are contributing to checks in the construction sector in Belgium under the #EU4FairConstruction campaign of the European Labour Authority (ELA), Bulgaria's General Labour Inspectorate (GLI) reported on Tuesday.
The aim of the ELA campaign is to provide information to workers and employers about their rights and obligations related to the posting of workers and in other areas relevant to labour mobility.
The Bulgarian inspectors are taking part in ELA-supported joint checks at construction sites in Knokke-Heist, in the Belgian province of West Flanders, where Bulgarains are employed. The inspectors are checking compliance with labour and social security law related to the posting of construction workers. The GLI officers are assisting communication with the Bulgarian workers at the construction sites to find more about the real posting and working conditions and to ensure fast information sharing with the Bulgarian supervisory authorities.
As a result of the joint actions, the Belgian authorities have uncovered cases of undeclared labour on the spot. The representatives of Belgium, Lithuania and Bulgaria had discussions on national practices of posting construction workers.
