Producer Price Indices Further Up in September M/M, Down Y/Y

The Total Producer Price Index in Industry rose by 1.6% in September 2023 compared to the previous month for the second month in a row after the downward trend was reversed in July, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday. On an annual basis, however, the Total Producer Price Index has been falling for six months now.

Producer Price Index M/M

An increase by 4.1% was registered in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply in September compared to August. The manufacturing industry saw a 0.9% increase. Prices in the mining and quarrying industry fell by 1.3%, the NSI said.   

In the manufacturing industry, higher prices were observed in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 8.4% and of rubber and plastic products by 2.1%. Lower prices were recorded in the manufacture of paper and paper products by 2.4%, and in the manufacture of wood and of wood and cork products (except furniture) by 1.1%.

Producer Price Index Y/Y

The Total Producer Price Index went down by 24.3% in September 2023 compared to the same month in 2022. There was a considerable decline in prices in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 56.7%, and in the mining and quarrying industry by 4.5%. The manufacturing industry saw an increase by 0.4%.

In the manufacturing industry, prices grew by 45.3% in the manufacture of tobacco products, by 20.9% in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, and by 14.1% in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products. The most significant drop in prices was reported in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 19.1%, and in the manufacture of basic metals by 8.4%.
