"About Lukoil, I would just like to say the following - the caretaker government appointed by me managed to convince Lukoil to finally register its economic activity in Bulgaria, and to pay BGN 180 million in corporate tax in advance," President Rumen Radev told journalists on Wednesday after the ceremony marking the 145th anniversary of the Bulgarian Red Cross. "While for all the previous twenty years the corporate tax collected amounted to BGN 70 million," the President said.

"How was the caretaker government able to guarantee the sustainable operation of the refinery and bring down [fuel] prices from BGN 3.50 to BGN 2.40 [per litre], while the incumbents cannot?" Rumen Radev asked.

If the derogation is cancelled, there will be a risk of deficit and increased prices, Radev said.

"We have not seen substantiated estimates and models for the energy law, directly concerning such an important issue, which concerns the well-being and sustainable development of the Bulgarian energy and economy. This is exactly why I returned the law for further discussion," the President said.

In the incessant quarrels for influence, money and positions, the government forgets about the most important thing - they are responsible above all for the security and well-being of the people. National security requires the government to look beyond posts, its interests and mandates, and to return its focus on the problems of society, Rumen Radev further said.
