At the end of September, bank deposits of the non-governmental sector were BGN 122.17 billion (65.4% of GDP), and in the past year they have increased by 9.4% (10.4% annual increase in August 2023), reported the Bulgarian National Bank.

Deposits of non-financial enterprises at the end of September were BGN 42.327 billion (22.6% of GDP). Compared to the same month of 2022, they increased by 8.8% (11.1% annual increase in August 2023).

Deposits of financial enterprises decreased by 5.6% year-on-year in September 2023 (13.9% annual increase in August 2023) and at the end of the month reached BGN 3.383 billion (1.8% of GDP).

Household deposits were BGN 76.460 billion (40.9% of GDP) at the end of September. They increased by 10.5% compared to the same month of 2022 (9.8% annual growth in August 2023).

At the end of September 2023, loans to the non-governmental sector amounted to BGN 87.493 billion (46.8% of GDP), compared to BGN 86.218 billion as of August 2023. In September 2023, they increased on an annual basis by 11.3% (10.8% annual increase in August 2023).

In September, loans to non-financial enterprises increased by 7.1% and at the end of the month reached BGN 43.268 billion (23.1% of GDP).

Loans to households were BGN 36.920 billion (19.7% of GDP). Compared to September 2022, they increased by 14% (14.25 annual increase in August 2023). At the end of September, housing loans amounted to BGN 18.763 billion and increased on an annual basis by 18.8% (18.75 annual increase in August 2023). Consumer loans amounted to BGN 16.494 billion and increased by 10.5% compared to September 2022 (10.8% annual increase in August 2023).

Loans for employers and self-employed persons increased in September by 3.3% on an annual basis to BGN 447 million. Loans granted to financial enterprises amounted to BGN 7.305 billion (3.9% of GDP) at the end of September 2023. Compared to September 2022, they increased by 25.4%.
