Negotiations between BMF Port Burgas and the Turkish port of Karasu are in progress on launching a Ro Ro link between them, said BMF Port Burgas Executive Director Boris Balev. The two Black Sea posts stand some 160 nautical miles apart.

The Burgas port operator is ready to go ahead with the project, but the Turkish operator has yet to convince their carriers to use that line, Balev said. He added that there are designs for four new ship berths at the BMF port for which a building permit have been issued. The CEO insisted that the more investors are attracted to this country, the more opportunities open up for building new capacities.

Balev said that vigorous progress is being made in the construction of a new deep-water berth at the Port Terminal Burgas West. "This will enable us to serve even better the major container lines," he added.

The new berth, which has a wharf length of 260 m and a depth of 15.5 m, is designed to handle the latest-generation container ships. This extension is intended to consolidate the port's positions as a leading container terminal in the Black Sea region and to offer better connectivity to cargo importers or exporters.

BMF Port Burgas is a private port operator of Port Terminal Burgas East II and Port Terminal Burgas West that are both parts of the national public Port Burgas.
