The Days of Bulgarian writer Aleko Konstantinov, aka The Happy Man, in Svishtov begin with a rich programme and creative meetings, organizers from Svishtov Municipality and the International Aleko Konstantinov Foundation announced Thursday. The beginning will be set on January 8 in the hall of the municipality with the presentation of the book In front of the iconostasis of the The Happy Man and a meeting with its author Boyko Belensky.
On January 9, 130 years of organized tourist movement in Bulgaria will be celebrated in the auditorium of the "Dimitar Hadzhivasilev" Commercial High School with the participation of primary and secondary school students. On January 10, writer Viktor Topalov will present his book "The Writers' Quarter" at the Aleko Konstantinov House-Museum.
The celebrations will culminate on January 13. In the Art Gallery "Nikolai Pavlovich" will be opened the exhibition "What Has the Hornet Done" with cartoons drawn over the years. At 5 pm, a torchlight procession and a city-wide pilgrimage will take place from the Aleko Konstantinov House-Museum to Aleko's monument in the City Garden. At 6 pm in the hall of the First Bulgarian Folk Chitalishte "Elenka and Kiril D. Avramovi" the announcement of the results of the International Short Story Competition "Aleko" will take place. The funds from the concert of Hilda Kazasyan and the Pleven Philharmonic - "Let's Listen to Cinema", which will close the festive programme, will go to the fund of the International Aleko Konstantinov Foundation for publishing and charitable activities, organizers said.
Between January 7 and 14 the Professional High School "Aleko Konstantinov" in Svishtov will celebrate its patron's day with quizzes, competitions and contests.
In 2023, the BTA's "Aleko Today" initiative organized meetings with intellectuals and public figures in BTA press clubs across the country, dedicated to the 160th birth anniversary of the Happy Man. The thematic issue of the "LIK" magazine, dedicated to Aleko Konstantinov, was presented on January 13, 2024 at the BTA press club in Svishtov.
