Prints and sculptures by Ivan Gazdov will go on display at Sofia’s ARTE Gallery on January 7, 2025, the organizers said.
Born in Yambol (Southeastern Bulgaria) in 1945, Gazdov graduated from the National Academy of Art in Sofia in 1970. He specialized in Bucharest, Prague, Amsterdam, Krakow and Warsaw. Between 1970 and 1976 he worked at Bulgaria’s first graphic design studio. Lecturer at the National Academy of Art since 1973, he became a professor in 1994 and was Rector of the Academy from 1999 until 2003, when he received an honorary doctorate from the higher education establishment.
Gazdov has staged more than 50 solo exhibitions and has shared in over 200 group exhibitions inside and outside Bulgaria, including Yambol, Sofia, Paris in Vienna.
He holds 34 visual arts awards: 20 national and 14 international (of which five from competitions in Japan). In 1987 he developed his own graphic style, called “Graphicature”, presenting it at over 30 exhibitions at home and abroad.
The artist’s works are owned by galleries in Varna, Vidin, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Montana and Yambol and by Gabrovo’s Home of Humour and Satire, as well as by museums and private collections across the world.
