The documentary film Beyond the Limit, which is about the history of the Bulgarian Antarctic Base and the daily routine of its crew, will be screened in the Black Sea city of Burgas on November 24 after it premiered at Sofia’s Lumiere Cinema on November 18, the management of the Kinomania Film Festival said on Tuesday.
Directed by Lenko Kasaliiski and produced by Doli Media Studio, the film will be shown at the NHK Cultural Centre in Burgas. It also tells about the founder of the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island, Prof. Christo Pimpirev.
Beyond the Limit presents the entire voyage of the Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) in support of the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition (November 2022 – March 2023). The main narrator is Prof. Pimpirev, who happened to stay in Bulgaria during the expedition and experienced it through available footage.
The film documents everyday activities at the Bulgarian research base, which has been the only Balkan base in Antarctica for 38 years. Since the first Bulgarian expedition to the icy continent in 1988, the country has been firmly positioned on the map of seafaring nations and has done serious science in the world ocean.
As part of the ongoing Kinomania Film Festival, the documentary will also be screened in Stara Zagora, Varna and Plovdiv simultaneously on November 25.
