site.btaArtist Filipina Stamenkova's Installation Featured in National Gallery Exhibition
The fifth edition of Stenata (The Wall), a project by the National Gallery, is set to feature Reflections, a unique installation by Filipina Stamenkova, the event's organisers reported on Monday. The exhibition will be open to the public in Kvadrat 500 gallery, starting from June 6, 2024 and running until May 31,2025. The exhibition, curated by Martin Kostashki, has partnered with BTA for media coverage.
The team shared that mirrors are a rather unique object, altering the viewer's perception as they move, similar to changing film scenes. This experience is based on the principle of anamorphosis. Stamenkova's installation uses a mirrored wall to alter visitors' perception of their surroundings and themselves, making them a central part of the artwork. The mirror's ability to warp, distort, magnify, and alter images transforms relationship with surrounding spaces. This reflective surface, while appearing passive, is dynamic and changes the observer's view of the world due to its reflective properties.
The installation was created by Woood Studio, a collaborative workspace for innovative individuals with engineering skills. The project was sponsored by the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation.
Stamenkova is a graduate of the National Academy of Arts. She experiments with various media with an interdisciplinary mindset, creating miniature representations of everyday objects using mirror plates. Her work prominently features paintings and easels.
