The Romanian underground folk group Subcarpati will perform at Club Mixtape 5 in Sofia on February 16, the organizers said.

The Guardian describes Subcarpați as an explosive mix of old and new, an electrifying combination that brings together the melancholy of Romanian folk songs, Romanian songs about the unity of the people, traditional instruments and the rhythms of trip-hop, dubstep, hip-hop and dancehall.

The group has recorded seven albums, has received eight-figure views on video platforms and gathers tens of thousands of fans at their concerts in Romania. Subcarpati carefully choose their performances abroad, and are returning to the Bulgarian stage after a seven-year absence, to present her latest album Valley of the Volt, the organizers said.

Subcarpati creator Bean MC (Alexe Marius Andrei) said that in the album, the group tried to "explore other musical valleys", adding that they interpret folklore in our their way and bring to the fore the importance of the connection with our origins. We chose to talk about explore patriotism and love for traditional values without turning them into an emotional speech. Bean MC noted that today's young people are too busy in the chaos of big cities to take time to connect with the past and nature.

The formation will come to Sofia in its full composition of 11 people, at the invitation of Nikola Gruev-Kottarashky. "Few groups interpret Balkan folklore so well, mixing it with the most modern styles", the Bulgarian musician motivated the invitation. Kottarashky will open for Subcarpati in Sofia.
