Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski commented on Bulgaria's position following a security council convened by the Prime Minister on Tuesday. He told journalists in Parliament on Wednesday that Bulgaria's position is that of neutrality, which Peevski described as "spinelessness". According to him, the country's position has to be firm and clear and that the Government should formulate it.

On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced that the participants in the council united around the fact that a just and lasting peace can be achieved as peace through security for Ukraine and for the EU. "Bulgaria can afford neither actively nor passively to be put in the situation of choosing its support and attitude for the war in the different tendencies expressed by the EU and the US. We see them as NATO allies and as a joint guarantor for the protection of our national security," he said.

This is not a position, Peevski said. He added that it is only talk of some investments in defence since there is no money. Without money nothing can be done, but at the same time nothing has been done, Peevski noted.

The Floor Leader said that his parliamentary group will be firmly opposed to Bulgaria funding anything outside the country, "all money should stay in Bulgaria for the Bulgarian citizens", Peevski said in response to a question on providing aid to Ukraine.

On November 20, 2024, Peevski was awarded a medal for special services to the Ukrainian people by Ukraine's Parliament Chair Ruslan Stefanchuk. The medal was presented by Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria Olesya Ilashchuk to the polition who had been an outspoken advocate of supporting Ukraine in its struggle against the aggressor. In December 2024, the only positive reaction to a request by the then Prime Minister to Parliament to mandate him with the signing of a defence cooperation agreement with Ukraine, came from MRF - New Beginning, whose leader Delyan Peevski said that the agreement with Ukraine is "Sofia's political commitment to Kyiv and its heroic people, supporting them against Moscow's unprovoked military aggression and helping restore normal life for all Ukrainian families and their children".

Peevski further said Wednesday that MRF-New Beginning will back the bills for the budgets of the National Health Insurance Fund, the Public Social Security Institute and the State. According to Peevski, the current Government is "a shameful deal" and it will soon end.
