Six people have been arrested after tensions escalated outside the Sofia office of the European Commission during a protest, organized by Vazrazhdane, on Saturday, Senior Commissioner Stefan Ivanov, deputy head of the Sofia Police Department told a news briefing. Ten police officers have sustained minor injuries, he added.

Vazrazhdane supporters, protesting against the euro, threw red paint, eggs and firecrackers at the building and the door of the office was set alight. Protesters chanted “Resign” and “’Not to Euro”.

The police pushed back the protesters, and firefighters and police reinforcements were dispatched to the scene.

The protest, organized by Vazrazhdane, started earlier on Saturday outside the Bulgarian National Bank.
