The installation Biomorphic³ allows visitors to try to immerse themselves in a world where technology and nature go hand in hand, BTA learned from designer Nikolay Bozhilov. His installation Biomorphic³ is on display in the Panorama Room of the Kvadrat 500 National Gallery until February 28.
"Biomorphic³ for me is a combination of biology, morphology, two things that I interpret in this project, namely - the transformation, flat material into three-dimensional form and sculpture," said Bozhilov, who is a senior assistant professor at the National Academy of Arts, where he teaches Fashion Design, Computer Design and Fashion Forecasting.
“My initial idea, which came from the very space we are in here at the National Gallery, was to create an installation that would come apart. Naturally, I chose the perfect shape for me, the cube. I wanted to illustrate first with the colour blue the technology, the idea of forwardness, of strength and collapse, and then the transformations that happen to resemble biological forms - to be soft, somewhat irregular - and at the same time to be distinguishable, to adjust and change in different ways. In fact, we also associate blue with the colour of water, the colour of our planet. This is a theme I pursue in my work - a mix between technology, the future and u the constant turning to nature for inspiration,” Bozhilov said.
“In this project, I interpreted the idea of how the garment can transform the person and the personality, and vice versa. That is, fashion is a medium that allows us to express ourselves, and sometimes it can take over us as individuals. Just like in everything in life, it is important to find the balance in these relationships as well,” the artist shared.
