Bulgaria missed the historic chance to be a mediator between the East and the West in the conflict in Ukraine, commented by Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov on the air of Bulgarian National Television (BNT) on Friday evening.
Zafirov argued that there are both geopolitical and historical prerequisites for this to have happened. “Now, before our eyes, the architecture of this type of world relations is changing literally by the hour. Bulgaria will have its participation in this architecture and now we really have to make our claims, because the topic of peace has already been put on the table, much more insistently than the topic of war,” Zafirov pointed out.
Zafirova also commented on the 2025 state budget, urging for stability. He noted that there is a real risk that large groups of people will be under threat of complete social exclusion.
Zafirov also said that the Bulgarian Socialist Party does not seek power at any cost especially if the government does not guarantee Bulgarian citizens well-being, security, if it does not protect national sovereignty and national security, if it encroaches on social benefits, health, education.
