Over 40 rarely shown works by Bulgarian artist Margarit Margo Tsanev - (1944 - 1969) will be on display at the gallery of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Paris. The exhibition is titled "Flight" and be open there from March 6 until May, the organizers say.

The exhibition includes early works of the artist - watercolour landscapes from his school practices in Sofia, Melnik, Koprivshtitsa and Teteven (part of the donation of National School of Fine Arts), as well as a collection of drawings from his student years, owned by the artist's family.

"Portraits, self-portraits, landscapes, compositions - a rebellion against the falsity of the system in the 1960s. Some of them related to religious or mythological themes, others - reflections on love and death. Although he remains forever 24, his works still look uncoventional," the team noted.
The exhibition is curated by Olimpia Nikolova-Daniel. "In 2025, the Ilia Petrov National School of Fine Arts, Debut Gallery, and Streletz ART Gallery are commemorating the 80th birth anniversary of Margarit 'Margo' Tsanev, an artist who will forever remain 24 years old," Nikolova-Daniel said.

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue (Bulgarian and French).

Margarit "Margo" Tsanev was born in Teteven (North Central Bulgaria) on October 30, 1944. He graduated from the Art High School in Sofia in 1964 and was admitted to study Sculpture at the Academy of Arts in 1965. In 1968, the Academy’s dean temporarily suspended his student rights for one year, prompting Tsanev to leave Sofia. Tsanev passed away in January 1969.
The exhibition was already on display at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin.
