Bulgarian MPs Ivailo Valchev and Toshko Yordanov participated in a roundtable with US conservative organizations during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Oxon Hill, Maryland, the There Is Such a People (TISP) party said in a press release on Friday. The sideline discussion was organized by New Direction, a Brussels-based foundation affiliated with the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Party, of which the TISP is a member.
The participants discussed a range of matters related to the strategic Transatlantic partnership, the EU's trade relations with the US, innovation and security.
Another highlight during the roundtable were the ideological similarities and dissimilarities between US and European conservatives. US speakers said they are puzzled to see that the EU remains a "geopolitical dwarf" despite its considerable economic power. ECR Party representatives expressed their discontent with the fact that the US, especially the Democratic Party, has spent decades pouring US taxpayers' money into making the liberal consensus dominate the public opinion in the EU countries, the TISP press release said.
Yordanov told his US colleagues: "Lots of money was given to NGOs to brainwash the public on such matters as gender identity, the 'fading' of nations, and the green ideology, and now it turns out it is our fault that you managed to do it. We need to see the new US administration finance common sense, if anything. Only common sense can help us in the fight against those NGOs created by the Democratic administration which have gorged themselves on grants."
Valchev said many people in Europe seem to have misunderstood US Vice President JD Vance's message, or they act as if they misunderstood it. "The US wants to partner with Europe but cannot accept Europe as an equal partner so long as the EU sinks into its own insane policies of open borders, green extremism and dissent muzzling," Valchev said.
He and Yordanov were among the guests at the main event on the first day of the CPAC, the speech of US Vice President JD Vance, in which he urged Europe to end its extreme liberal policies.
