Bulgarian citizens are advised to avoid travelling to Nis, just across the border in Serbia, on March 1 unless absolutely necessary, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

On March 1, the town will provide the setting for another anti-corruption protest of Serbian students, who have held blockades and demonstrations across the country since the deadly collapse of the canopy at the main train station in Novi Sad in November.

The Foreign Ministry expects a large number of people from all over Serbia to gather in Nis. Many protesters reportedly plan to spend the night there. Spontaneous road blockades are possible, affecting sections of international road E75.

At the end of a 15-hour blockade of the city of Kragujevac on February 15, protesters announced on social media that further demonstrations will be held in Nis on March 1.
