A third outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in the Plovdiv region since the beginning of 2025, the regional administration said in a press release on Friday. Measures have been taken to contain and eliminate the outbreaks, as discussed during a meeting of the regional epizootic commission, convened in response to the cases identified by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA). The outbreaks were detected at a poultry farm in the village of Manolsko Konare, Maritsa Municipality, and a duck farm in the village of Boyantsi, Asenovgrad Municipality.
Dr. Chavdar Chavdarov, director of the Regional Food Safety Directorate in Plovdiv, warned that there is a possibility of new outbreaks and urged strict adherence to BFSA recommendations to minimize losses for farms and poultry owners.
Chavdarov also outlined the containment measures being implemented. Three-kilometre protection zones have been established around the affected farms. To prevent the spread of the disease, BFSA officials in Plovdiv are carrying out the humane culling of infected and exposed birds at the affected sites.
