Bulgarian President Rumen Radev Wednesday conferred the Order of the Madara Horseman, First Class, on Algerian Ambassador to Bulgaria Messaoud Mehila for his significant contribution to the strengthening and development of relations between Bulgaria and Algeria. The ceremony took place in the Coat of Arms Hall of the Presidency on Wednesday.
Rumen Radev thanked Ambassador Mehila for his remarkable contributions to the development and strengthening of relations between the two countries in the interest of preserving and promoting the political, economic, and cultural ties. "Bulgaria highly values the relations between our two countries and considers Algeria one of its most important partners in the North African region and among Arab nations," Radev said. The Bulgarian President emphasized that it had been a particular pleasure for him to hold several meetings with the President of Algeria in various international formats, during which they had the opportunity to discuss practical and effective ways and mechanisms for fostering trade and economic exchange, as well as enhancing cooperation in education, culture, and tourism.
Ambassador Mehila highlighted that receiving this order was a great honour and privilege for him. "This joyous event will forever mark my diplomatic career as an ambassador," he noted, adding that he was very pleased to see Bulgaria as a member of Schengen, as well as the formation of a regular government. "These are two important events that herald a period of stability, development, and growth for the country," the ambassador emphasized. Mehila voiced his confidence that Bulgaria will soon join the Eurozone, as well as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
"Relations between Algeria and Bulgaria have always been good. History provides numerous examples of the strength of our ties and the friendship between our two peoples," noted Ambassador Messaoud Mehila. He emphasized that the Algerian people and the Algerian state will always be grateful for Bulgaria’s support during the Algerian War of Independence. "The friendship and mutual respect between us leave no room for any disturbances, even those linked to temporary international circumstances," Ambassador Mehila further said.
