One thousand more blood donations in the last year were reported here on Tuesday by the Centre of Transfusion Haematology of the Military Medical Academy (MMA).

"For more than three decades, our mission has been to support the clinics of the MMA, to work for the development of the transfusion system and blood donation in Bulgaria, said Prof. Rumen Popov, Head of the Centre of Transfusion Haematology.

He reported that there has been an increase in blood donations in recent years and the MMA had over 7,000 donors this year. "Half of them are traditionally civilian employees and servicemen of military formations. But we have something else to boast about - at the end of 2024, we are reporting 1,000 more blood donations than last year," he said.

"Our main task is to work every day for the trust of donors so they can return. And this is possible when the team is made up of professionals who know their duties, who are responsible in their work and accountable to the MMA, said Prof. Rumen Popov
