At a press briefing on Saturday, Caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov commented on the preparations for the upcoming early parliamentary elections on October 27. He said that the Ministry had received several reports, but they were "not of any serious weight".
There are reports of individuals possibly involved in buying and selling votes, but at this stage there is nothing concrete as facts and the information is very general. Nevertheless, it is subject to verification, after which it will be reported to the prosecution service, Ilkov said.
"The main task before us is to guarantee fair and transparent elections, so that we do not allow the citizens' vote to be distorted. We will be uncompromising in our actions," the Interior Minister stressed.
The Interior Ministry is in coordination with the State Agency for National Security, the prosecution service, Ilkov also noted.
The Interior Minister is in Panagyurishte, Southern Bulgaria, on the occasion of the 2024 Traffic Police Officer of the Year National Competition, which is held for the 30th time.
