President Radev to Attend Opening of XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Paris

President Rumen Radev will visit France for the opening of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games, which will begin in Paris on July 26, his press office said on Thursday. The visit is at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach. The Bulgarian head of State will be accompanied by his wife, Desislava Radeva.

On Thursday, Radev will participate in the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development. Hosted by Macron and Bach, the event will be attended by heads of state and government, international organizations, athletes and representatives of international federations, the Olympic movement, the non-governmental sector and business. The focus of the meeting is on the commitment to children's health and education, and the contribution of sport to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

On Friday, President Radev will visit the Bulgarian Embassy in Paris to mark the start of the Summer Olympics and the participation of the Bulgarian athletes in the Games. An exhibition of paintings by Vladimir Nikolov will be presented at the diplomatic mission on the initiative of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.

Later that day, the head of state and his wife will be welcomed at the Elysee Palace by Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. After the official reception given by the French President, heads of state and government delegations will take part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris at Place du Trocadero.

Within the framework of the visit to France, Radev will visit the Olympic Village located in Saint-Denis near Paris, where he will meet with Bulgarian athletes. The President is also scheduled to support the athletes in the framework of sports competitions with Bulgarian participation.

A total of 46 athletes in 16 sports will represent Bulgaria at the Olympics.
