Over the past seven years, living conditions in Bulgaria's penitentiaries have significantly improved, said caretaker Justice Minister Maria Pavlova. On Friday, she attended an event marking the 80th anniversary of the opening of the prison in Pazardzhik.

Four more projects related to penitentiary facilities are about to be finalized, including the prison hostels in Plovdiv , Samoranovo and Petrich, Pavlova said.

On the occasion of the anniversary, a documentary was screened at the prison's training centre, and prisoners gave a theatrical performance and sang.
