Foreign Minister Stefan Dimitrov is a career diplomat with nearly 30 years' experience.

Dimitrov was appointed ambassador to Montenegro in January 2023. Between 2015 and 2019, he headed the Bulgarian Consulate in Frankfurt. From 2014 to 2015, he headed the Eastern Europe unit of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department in the Foreign Ministry. In 2013-2014, he served at the Foreign Ministry Inspectorate. In 2013, he headed the SMEs Directorate of the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Promotion Agency. Before that, in 2009-2012, he headed the Bulgarian diplomatic bureau in Bonn. Between 1995 and 1998 he was a desk officer for Germany at the Foreign Ministry's department for Europe and North America. Master of Political Science from the University of Potsdam, Germany.
