Ruse Region is an example of how the cohesion policy in the European Union helps regions to develop and improve the quality of life of their residents, said Ruse Deputy Regional Governor Georgi Georgiev during a local conference as part of BTA's Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project. The conference took place at the BTA National Press Club here on Friday.

He pointed out that in recent years, a number of projects have been implemented in Ruse Region through European funding, not only in infrastructure, but also in the education, business and social spheres. As a result, Georgiev noted that Ruse Region is very well developed in all areas and is a good example of a modern European region with a past, present and future, both in culture and industry.

“I deliberately mention these two areas, which at first glance do not have much in common with each other, but in fact this is not the case - knowledge is what unites them. In the modern dynamic world, it is knowledge that is becoming the most valuable resource, because it is literally the engine of innovation, economy and social change,” Georgiev emphasized.

With advances in information technology, access to knowledge becomes easier than ever, he stated. “With the growing amount of information, new challenges emerge, how to distinguish between true and false information and how to process it so that it is useful and effectively applicable. Knowledge is not just a matter of academic education or professional experience, but requires strong critical thinking and, above all, skills for adaptation to the changing world,” he stressed.

He pointed out that this is also a challenge to science and the entire educational system, which need a clear systematic approach and full funding so that it is maximally adapted to the requirements of today. “I believe that such conferences are becoming a kind of incubator for generating new ideas with high added value. Congratulations to the management and team of BTA,” Georgiev concluded.

BTA's Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project aims to raise public awareness and foster open dialogue about cohesion policy, local achievements, and the implementation of the EU's policy priorities. The project kicked off with a conference in Veliki Preslav in November 2024. Until September 2025, BTA will host discussions at its press clubs in the following cities: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Razgrad, Ruse, Samokov, Svishtov, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Troyan, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen, and Yambol. Cross-border conferences will be held in Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Bucharest, Edirne, Skopje, and Thessaloniki. The project builds on the Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future and Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future projects, implemented by BTA in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
