The Head of the European Commission's Representation in Bulgaria, Yordanka Chobanova, attended a discussion dedicated to Day of European Authors was held at Sofia Library on Monday. The event was organized in partnership with the Sofia Library and the Bulgarian PEN Centre and was part of the pan-European initiative "European Literature - Bridge Between Cultures."
"The European publishing sector is extremely diverse, with over 575,000 titles published every year. The publishing industry is one of the largest in Europe, with an estimated market value of over EUR 36 billion. The Day of European Authors is now in its third year and was initiated by [former European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society (2017-2023)] Mariya Gabriel, and we thank her because she has managed to turn a wonderful idea into a tradition," she said.
"We are happy to say that last year Bulgaria ranked second in the European Union in the number of meetings with authors and public readings in schools, libraries and bookshops," said Chobanova.
Participating in the discussion were writers Georgi Gospodinov, Georgi Bardarov, Zachary Karabashliev, Vladimir Zarev, Theodora Dimova, Viktoria Beshliiska, Ameliya Licheva, Mirela Ivanova, Prof. Kiril Topalov, Prof. Plamen Dojnov, Todor Todorov, Yordan Eftimov, Mitko Novkov, Kristin Dimitrova, Aksinia Mihaylova, and Tsanko Lalev.
