Bulgaria and Jordan will co-chair a high-level meeting in Sofia as part of the Aqaba Process initiative, the President's press secretariat reported on Monday. At the invitation of President Rumen Radev and King Abdullah II of Jordan, government leaders, officials from intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations will gather in early April to discuss security issues, focusing on the Balkans.
The Aqaba Process for the Balkans III Forum follows previous meetings on the topic held under the initiative - in Aqaba, Jordan in 2016, and in Tirana, Albania in 2018. The aim of the forum in Sofia is for leaders from Southeastern Europe, along with representatives from governments, institutions, and Aqaba Process partners, to analyze the security architecture of the Balkans, discuss regional information-sharing mechanisms, and coordinate efforts to combat illegal migration, terrorism, radicalization, and extremism.
The Aqaba Process is a series of international meetings initiated by King Abdullah II in 2015, aimed at maintaining regional and international coordination and cooperation in combating terrorism, extremist ideologies, and radicalization through a comprehensive approach. To foster open dialogue among participants, the meetings are held in an informal setting.
