Addressing the EU Meets the Balkans forum here on Monday, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said in a video: "Our democracy will be strong when we are united and have a common vision that we cannot be a stronger, more stable and prosperous union without the Western Balkans." She underscored that Russia's war in Ukraine has accelerated the EU accession process of the Western Balkan countries.

Metsola recalled that the EU has decided to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The region has to continue implementing the accession criteria, she underscored. The membership in the EU is a transforming process for our partnership, she added.
