site.btaBulgaria Receives EC Approval for Record Number of Digitalization and Environmental Protection Reforms Last Year
The European Commission reported on Tuesday that last year Bulgaria received support for a record number of reform projects in the field of digitization and environmental protection. The data shows that 13 projects have been approved for 2023, and in recent years that number was about ten.
So far, 66 projects for structural reforms in 10 political areas have been implemented in Bulgaria with the support of the EC, of which 10 were related to cooperation with other EU countries. The largest part of these projects were related to public financial management and tax revenue (23 %), public administration and governance (21%), access to finance (14%), competitiveness (13% ), green transition (8%), labour market and migration (7%).
In 2024, Bulgaria is working on 11 projects related to preparing a production strategy, providing international protection to asylum seekers, dealing with the demographic crisis, evaluating policies, investigating tax fraud. Together with other EU countries, Bulgaria is working to draft legislation for clean hydrogen production, crisis management, improving education, combating fraud with EU funds, countering the abuse of public procurement.
On Tuesday, the EC said that it had approved a total of 170 new projects in the EU under the Technical Support Instrument (TSI) introduced after 2017, which are expected to lead to 307 reforms.
