Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov has tabled a proposal to President Rumen Radev to issue a decree terminating the powers of the Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Petar Todorov, the Interior Ministry said in a press release Wednesday.

According to the rules of procedure of the Council of Ministers, the Interior Minister has to coordinate the proposal with the President beforehand. After coordination, the item can be included on the meeting agenda of the Council of Ministers.

On August 18, after a meeting with representatives of the Interior Ministry and security services, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov asked Stoyanov to prepare a report requesting the replacement of Todorov. The meeting was held in the wake of the August 16 murder of businessman Alexey Petrov.

Stoyanov expressed his belief that Todorov is responsible for the lack of organization and control over activities in the Ministry of Interior, which is directly related to the death of six police officers of the Ministry, in the performance of their duties, within an extremely short period of time.

Asked if he was ready with the name of the new secretary general, Stoyanov said that this had not yet been discussed.
