Interior Minister: Closed Police Station at Border Will Be Reopened

The closed border police station in Bolyarovo, Southeast Bulgaria, will be reopened, caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said during his visit to the Regional Directorate Border Police in Elhovo on Tuesday. The territorial unit will be employing 40 local officers.

"We are of course shocked and saddened by the incident that took place yesterday at the Bulgarian border with Türkiye," European Commission spokeswoman Anitta Hipper said on Tuesday, responding to questions about the incident in which a Bulgarian policeman was shot dead on Monday evening while trying to prevent an attempted illegal crossing of the Bulgarian-Turkish border during a routine patrol.
