Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.4 were registered on Friday in the Vrancea seismic zone in eastern Romania, Romanian media reported, citing the National Institute for Earth Physics.
The first earthquake occurred in Vrancea county at 1 a.m. (Eastern European Standard Time), and the closest cities to its epicenter were Focsani (46 km west), Buzau (60 km north), Sfantu Gheorghe (66 km east), Brasov (76 km east) and Ploiești (91 km northeast). The quake was detected at a depth of 139.9 km.
The second earthquake, which also had a magnitude of 3.4, was registered at 6:53 a.m. in Buzau county at a depth of 140 km. The earthquake was near the following cities: Focsani (51 km west), Buzau (52 km northwest), Sfantu Gheorghe (67 km southeast), Brasov (73 km east) and Ploiesti (81 km northeast).
The two quakes occurred after a magnitude 4.2 earthquake was recorded in the same seismic zone on Thursday night.
Since the beginning of February, nine earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.4 and 4.4 have occurred in Romania.
