site.btaRomania Condemns Russia's Latest Attack on Ukraine
Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for a cessation of the recurrent attacks against the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure and the "irresponsible escalation on the part of Russia of the security situation, including on the border between Romania and Ukraine", the Ministry said in a press release that was circulated to the media on Sunday, including the BTA correspondent's bureau.
The Ministry's position is prompted by the news about yet another Russian attack against Ukraine near the border with Romania on the night of Saturday to Sunday.
The Ministry insists on respect for international law, including the inviolability of Romania's airspace, and reiterated its strong condemnation of the attacks.
It transpired earlier on Sunday that radars had detected a drone crossing Romania's airspace en route to Ukraine. The Romanian National Defence Ministry reported that two F-16 jet fighters had scrambled to follow the course of the unmanned aicraft. There are indication that drone debris may have fallen in an uninhabited area of the village of Periprava in Tulcea County (Southeastern Romania). Digi24 TV quoted the Ukrainian authorities as saying that the drone had crossed the Danube delta.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry has informed NATO Allies and structures about developments on the border between Romania and Ukraine, including this incidents, and is coordinating its response with them.
