The government of North Macedonia has adopted a national strategy for the country's development until 2044, the government's press centre in Skopje reported. The document will be tabled in Parliament.

The national strategy sets the main development goals for the Republic of North Macedonia in the 2024-2044 period. The document also determines the strategic areas of priority for accelerated, inclusive, balanced, and sustainable development of the country in the context of its ambitions to join the EU by 2030.

The document defines six strategic priorities: economy based on knowledge, innovation, and digitization; sustainable regional development; demographic revival and social and cultural development; rule of law and good governance; secure, safe, and sustainable society; and green transformation.

The national strategy is the result of three years of work with the participation of 14,000 citizens, over 250 representatives of national institutions, 70 mayors, 50 MPs from the ruling parties and the opposition, representatives of chambers of commerce, civil organizations, more than 500 representatives of marginalised and vulnerable groups as well as over 1,000 youths and members of youth organisations, the press release reads. The process was carried out by the government in partnership with the UN Resident Coordinator Office and the UN Development Programme, with the financial support of the UK Embassy in Skopje and the Slovakian Finance Ministry.
