The Romanian daily Adevarul published an article on Thursday entitled Romanians Are Skiing in War-torn Ukraine. Bukovel, the largest ski resort in Eastern Europe, is situated in the Carpathian Mountains and covers five mountain peaks.

The resort in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is a favourite destination of Romanians, especially those living in the north of the country. It has about 70 kilometres of ski slopes. Children visit it by organized bus trips. Its 16 rope transport facilities offer a capacity of 34,700 people per hour.

Prices at the resort have dropped since the previous season and now vary between RON 100 and RON 1,000, or BGN 40 and BGN 400 per night. Many hotels offer service in Romanian.

Adevarul quotes one Romanian tourist, who said: "I arrived at the Sighet border crossing yesterday. The document check took no more than 15 minutes. There are no signs of conflict in the area. Everything is normal and quiet in Bukovel."

While it ultimately lost to Beijing, China, Bukovel was one of the main contenders to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.
