site.btaInsurance Companies Manage LV 7.645 Bln in Assets at End-2018

March 11 (BTA) - Assets managed by insurance companies
operating in Bulgaria amounted to 7.645 billion leva as of the
end of December 2018. They increased by 347.7 million leva
(4.8%) compared to the end of December 2017, the Bulgarian
National Bank reported on Monday.

Assets of life insurance companies increased by 118.4 million
leva (5.8%) from 2.034 billion leva as of the end of December
2017 to 2.153 billion leva at the end of the same month of 2018.

Assets managed by general insurance companies increased by 229.4
 million leva (4.4%) from 5.263 billion leva as of the end of
December 2017 to 5.492 billion leva at the end of the same month
 of 2018.

Among the instruments included in the assets of insurance
companies, securities other than shares prevailed as of the end
of December 2018. Their amount decreased on an annual basis by
10.6 million leva (0.3%) to 3.751 billion leva.

In the currency breakdown of the assets of insurance companies
at the end of December 2018, the assets denominated in leva held
 the main share Ц 42.5% compared to 40.3% at the end of the
fourth quarter of 2017. Assets denominated in euro were 31.3%
against 30.7% as of the end of December 2017. At the end of the
fourth quarter of 2018 the assets denominated in US dollars were
 3.9% compared to 3.5% at the end of December 2017. The assets
denominated in other currencies were 22.4% compared to 25.4% as
of the end of December 2017.

Liabilities of insurance companies amounted to 7.645 billion
leva as of the end of December 2018.

Equity capital was 2.175 billion leva at the end of December
2018, decreasing by 14.9 million leva (0.7%) compared to the end
 of December 2017. At the end of the fourth quarter of 2018 its
share in the overall liabilities was 28.5% compared to 30% at
the end of the same quarter of 2017.

At the end of December 2018 insurance technical reserves
increased by 360.9 million leva (8.5%) to 4.613 billion leva
compared to the end of December 2017. Their share in the overall
 liabilities was 60.3% at the end of December 2018 compared to
58.3% at the end of December 2017. RY/VE
